THE HUMPING DOG

How many times in your life have you felt embarrassed because your dog started humping at the least opportune moment? Why do dogs actually hump? Is it a sign of dominance? Will neutering really help to get rid of this behavior?

Humping is the most normal and natural behavior among our both male and female canine friends. Most of us first begin to observe humping behavior during puppy play.Puppies often mount and hump their other playmates, people and toys because they are just thinking it feels nice. It has nothing to do with domination or sexual intercourse. In fact, frequent humpers are not usually the most confident dogs.So why do dogs hump?

1.Arousal

Some dogs hump as a result of other types of arousal. When a dog gets overly excited about  playtime itself, they will behave in this way

2.Anxiety or Frustration

Most often this stimulation comes in the form of stress. It works quickly to give your dog  sense of pleasure when he might be feeling little bit stressed.

3.Play

Dogs play-hump other dogs as a way to engage in socialization and challenge others with chasing.

Will neutralization help to stop this behavior?

Its the most common misconception that humping will be reduced by neutering your dog.Neutering will only make your friend stop running after unspayed females dogs in heat.

If you have a problem with your dog humping, first try to notice when he starts to do it. Try to find the reason for this behavior and work on it. Could it be when someone new comes in the house? Or maybe when something has been taken away from him?

If your dog only does this occasionally without hurting himself or another dog then just let him to do it.
