The command lie down you can use when guests come to you house and you don’t want your dog to jump on them with his paws. It can also be extremely useful if you want to teach your dog to settle on his bed while you eat.

1. ENCOURAGE DOG TO LIE DOWN WITH A TREAT
Slowly move your hand between your dog’s paws, low to the floor, and let your dog sniff it but do not let him to have it. reward your dog when he comes to the floor. When your dog has no problem with the first part, repeat the exercise and when the bottom falls to the ground reward it with a treat
2.LEAD THE DOG WITH AN EMPTY HAND
As before, guide the dog to a lying position, but this time pretending you have a treat in your hand. When the dog lies down, reward him.
3.REDUCE THE HAND GESTURE
Repeate this exercise several times. Each time try to hang the gesture higher and higher, to a point where you can stand comfortably.
4.ADD A VERBAL COMMAND
As your dog is in the act of lying down, add verbal command,for example “down” .
Never punish your dog for not understanding the cue. If your dog gets it wrong,be patient,take step back and repeat the exercise
